An Agreement between the European Patent Organization and the Republic of Moldova, which allows a European patent to be validated in the Republic of Moldova, entered into force on 1st November 2015. This brings the total number of countries for which patent protection can be obtained by means of a single European patent application to 42. These countries include the 38 member states of the European Patent Organization, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro, which currently have extension agreements on co-operation in the field of patents with the European Patent Organization in force, and Morocco, the first non-European country in which validation of a European patent became possible.
